Hirsch Vineyard is located on the coast, in an area that is pretty wet in the winter and cold in the spring. Nevertheless, great wines are being produced from this region, namely those of Kistler, Littorai and Williams Selyem. The 2005 yield was small - 47 cases were produced. Kosuge writes, “the berries were unevenùand mostly very small...Lots of stem per bunch in05! The wine shows the coolness of the vintage, with a raciness andôcutö which I quite like.” Kosuge spent fifteen years working as winemaker at Saintsbury inCarneros. In 2001, he went on to make Pinot Noir and Chardonnay forMiura in California(where he still consults) and for Kingston FamilyVineyards in Casablanca, Chile. He is also currently working on a fewsmall Pinot-centric projects in the Santa Lucia Highlands of MontereyCounty.
