Hudson Vineyard is well known for its Chardonnay, Merlot and Syrah,with several producers bottling Hudson Vineyard designates. 2005 was a milder vintage than2004, and grapes were harvested a couple weeks earlier than the previous year. Byron Kosuge, the winemaker and producer, declares “the wine is perhaps a bit firmer and darker than the 2004, but itshares the vivid range of aromas, including black olives, roasted meatand Earl Grey tea...it can be a little tight rightafter uncorking, but give it a little air, and it opens up nicely.” 250 cases made.
Kosuge spent fifteen years working as winemaker at Saintsbury in Carneros. In 2001, he went on to make Pinot Noir and Chardonnay for Miura in California(where he still consults) and for Kingston FamilyVineyards in Casablanca, Chile. He is also currently working on a few small Pinot-centric projects in the Santa Lucia Highlands of Monterey County.
