Full-bodied and smooth. The Napa Valley CabernetSauvignon from Duckhorn Wine Company is predominantly Cabernet, with a little Merlot blended in for added fruitiness (the 2004 vintage hovers at 86% Cab., 14% Merlot), and aged in 100% old and new French oak barrels for 18 months. The wines resultant “blue” aromas (blueberry, fig, violet) with subtle hints of fresh bell pepper are called out by piquant tannins on the palate, which are soon joined by redder fruit flavors of currant and ripe raspberries as the wine opens. Soil and herbs surface on the finish, which is nice and long.
